Election roadmap to be announced this week: EC Secretary
Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed spoke to reporters at the Election Building on Monday.
He said that the policy for setting up polling stations was discussed at the EC’s monthly coordination meeting. It was said that the number of polling stations will not increase. This does not mean that it has to be kept exactly as it was in the past, if it is increased based on logical considerations, it will be done.
When asked about setting up separate booths for youth, the EC Secretary said that it has not come up for discussion in the EC so far. If the authorities decide, then it will be done. At the moment, the EC is discussing how the internal management of the polling stations will be done. The EC Secretary said that the hearing on the objections raised regarding the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies will be started on August 24. It will be finalized after hearing for four consecutive days.
The Election Commission has already published the draft of the parliamentary constituency boundaries. The EC has received demands and objections regarding the draft of 83 constituencies. He said this when asked about the next process in this regard.
The EC Secretary commented that there is no reasonable reason to worry about the law and order situation during the election period at the moment. In response to a question, he said, “Law and order during the election period is a secondary issue. Is there any reason for us to be concerned at the moment? We are getting our things in order, everyone will be done as soon as they get their places in order. We are currently involved in the election management.”
The EC Secretary said, those who are in the field administration, those who are involved in maintaining law and order, are all working in their respective fields. There is a connection with the EC. He thinks there is no reasonable reason to express concern about this at the moment.
